my heartaches for this little girl, how can any sane human treat a girl this way?

PETALING JAYA: The couple detained over the suspected abuse of a three-year-old child have tested positive for the synthetic party drug syabu.

The child’s 27-year-old stepfather and 24-year-old mother are being remanded until April 20. Police, however, did not find any drugs in their Bukit Serdang home.

Meanwhile, initial findings of a post-mortem conducted at the Serdang Hospital revealed that Jasmine Lee’s body was covered with more than 60 injury marks – indicating that she may have been tortured.

Federal CID director Commissioner Datuk Seri Bakri Zinin said the bruises were mostly concentrated on Jasmine’s body and head and were the result of blunt force trauma.

“We do not want to speculate, but it is disturbing to find so many injuries on the poor child,” he said.

Comm Bakri said police were still waiting for the full post-mortem report to ascertain the actual cause of death.

Subang Jaya police chief Asst Comm Zainal Rashid said the initial post-mortem report also showed that the girl died of lobar pneumonia, a type of infection that affects a large and continuous area of the lung lobe.

It is learnt that the girl had been under the care of a foster family in Sentul since her birth until up to over a month ago.

The stepfather was arrested by police soon after the girl was taken to Poliklinik Komuniti Seri Kembangan at 7.45am on Wednesday. She was pronounced dead while being examined.

The doctor called in the police after the stepfather could not explain how the girl had suffered more than 30 bruises.

The former mechanic had taken the girl to the clinic after he found her unconscious in their apartment unit.

Police urged the public, especially residents of the Bukit Serdang apartment, to provide information if they had witnessed the abuse of the child.

They can call the Selangor Rakan COP hotline at 03-2052 9999 or the Subang Jaya police headquarters at 03-8948 4822. They can also send an SMS to 32728.
